My first thought from starting this blog and eventually Extra DC events are really simple. Most people come to DC as interns of on contracts. Those people are here to gain experience and then most likely do something different for the rest of their lives. Thus with the limited time, comes a great deal of choices. Do you really want to go to a game or some club, when you can do that at home?
DC does have something unique, the museums and the government presence are unmatched anywhere else. So that gives people an opportunity to see DC. Another thing that does not get a fair share of attention form nbew comers are those a hundred (176 to be exact) and saw embassies in Washington, DC. And not just in the embassy row. Embassies are literary all over the district, each of the city's neighborhoods get a solid diplomatic presence.
What if we can unlock the door to those embassies and offer more people to attend events at those embassies? I know embassies do their own things sometimes, but those either tend to be too exclusive (you did not get invited) or too public (a really long line). As someone who likes to see more of the world and as a resident of Washington DC, I know it seems that the world has come here in a way. So why not allow countries to flaunt their culture to you while enjoying the offerings of their culture from music, food and fashion.
Equally important the mingling, this is city of schmoozers and curious individuals who are hungry for culture. So whatever culture you are mad about, chanced are there are more people like you out there in this city. So ttay tuned....we will soon experience extra DC.
